1. What HIFU for uterine fibroids is

Focused ultrasound heats and shrinks fibroids through the intact skin, no incision, preserving the uterus. The technique was largely developed in China.

Trading an incision for physics: focused ultrasound needs a clear acoustic window and a fibroid pattern that absorbs energy well, which is why the MRI, not the wish, decides.

Will the fibroids be gone for good?

Fibroids shrink rather than vanish, and new ones can grow. The honest measure is symptom change over months.

Does it preserve fertility?

Preserving the uterus is the point; discuss timing of any pregnancy plans with the treating team.

Why might I be refused?

Unfavourable MRI patterns, fibroid position, or bowel in the beam path. A refusal is the system working.

How soon can I travel?

Often within days; the centre's review decides.
